ISU Pocatello Campus Planning

Hummel conducted a campus planning effort to revitalize the upper section of Idaho State University’s Pocatello campus. This project’s intentional design factored in the need for elevating the on-campus experience for students. This area of campus has a lot of student housing, but limited connectivity and sense of place.
Recommended improvements include a new plaza at Reed Gym with upgraded entryways, improved navigation through walkways, a spirit mark and Bengal bronze sculpture for photo opportunities, updated lighting, an amphitheater with tiered seating, a large fire pit, and other student spaces for year-round engagement.
Careful consideration was given so that the new design would blend seamlessly with the existing campus context, utilizing similar materials, plantings, wayfinding methodologies, and campus icons to enhance the student experience.
