Designed using traditional architectural elements and constructed from integral-colored CMU block, precast concrete, and brick construction, the Performing Arts Center’s hub-and-spoke design radiates from a large rotunda lobby offering an ideal space for pre-performance gatherings. The rotunda is accessed by two main entrances, one overlooking the ISU campus and the other facing Scout Mountain.
Promenades serve as spoke-like circulation paths leading from the lobby to the various performance venues. The Performing Arts Center includes a 1,200-seat concert hall, a 450-seat thrust theater, and a 200-seat experimental, or “black box, “ theater.
The facility also provides space for the Theater Arts Department, including space for all backstage functions such as scenery shop, prop storage, a costume shop and storage, green rooms, dressing rooms, classrooms, and faculty offices.
