J. L. Driscoll Residence

J.L. Driscoll Residence at 1200 Happy Drive in Boise. This home was completed in September 1955 for J. Lynn and Rachael Driscoll and designed by Hummel, Hummel & Jones (a predecessor of Hummel Architects). The home was built by Emery S. Conner with C.M. Davison as Landscape Designer.

This home is a gorgeous example of the simple mid-century lines popular in homes built at that time with natural stone details throughout. As you can see from the floorplan, the home was originally built with one owner’s bedroom and a separate maid’s room, with a living room and screened-off dining area that could be opened for entertaining. In reviewing the society pages at the time, the home was used frequently for hosting cocktail suppers, coffees, teas, picnics, and garden tours for entertaining and philanthropic causes. The owner, Rachael Driscoll was involved with St. Michaels Cathedral, she was the founder and first president of the St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, founder of Pi Beta Phi Alumni Club, Hillcrest Country Club, former president of the Columbian Club, and sponsor of the Boise Children’s Home. Her husband, J. Lynn Driscoll was the president of the First Security Bank of Idaho.

This home incorporates the great views of Boise with floor-to-ceiling windows, a lanai, and a large flagstone terrace for outdoor entertaining. The views would improve considerably when the Kathryn Albertson Park would open in 1989.
