Boise State University First Year Student Residence Hall

Boise State University’s student body continues to grow, posing a need for additional on-campus housing. To meet this need, Hummel collaborated with Anderson Mason Dale Architects and Boise State to design a contemporary Residence Hall for first-year students.

Redefining Campus Living

The 450-bed, 98,000 SF Boise State University First Year Residence Hall aims to redefine student living on campus through a modern design and strong connection to nature. Located in the heart of campus where academics, residence life, athletics, and the Boise Greenbelt meet, the goal of this new Residence Hall is to foster a sense of community and improve the first-year experience for Boise State students.

Supporting Student Success

The project is a unique opportunity for Boise State to create a building tailored to the specific needs of first-year students. The design establishes a sense of belonging among residents, providing support for physical and mental health during students’ transition from living with their families to living independently. Cultivating this supportive, safe environment plays an instrumental role in student success.

The building will consist of double occupancy rooms, totaling 450 beds for students and resident staff, central bathrooms, offices, meeting spaces, and common spaces such as lounges, kitchens, study areas, and laundry facilities. Building systems for this facility include fire suppression, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, data, telecommunications, and security.

This project broke ground in September of 2023 and is anticipated to open for the Fall 2025 semester.
