Idaho First National Bank

While enjoying the recreational joys of McCall this summer, drive by 2nd street to see this unique bank designed by Hummel, Hummel, Jones & Shawver and completed in 1971. Originally built as the McCall location of Idaho First National Bank it is currently operating as a US Bank.

The building was designed to withstand the extreme winter weather while fitting in and complimenting the resort community. The building was designed with a “ski lodge” effect, utilizing natural, native materials like timber and stone. The unique roofline was designed with no valleys to prevent snow accumulation, important since average snowfall in December and January is 32-35 inches.

This building was awarded the AIA Idaho Chapter Design Award in 1978. An early balsawood model of the project is also photographed.
