805 Idaho Building
Today’s #tbt look back at some of the projects in Hummel’s 125-year history is the 805 Idaho building. Architect, James King designed the original bank section of this rusticated stone version of the Romanesque revival style in 1890.
In the following decade, Tourtellotte & Hummel designed the fourth-floor addition and the extension westward on Idaho Street, giving the building the familiar look that remains to the 21st century. The remodeling of 1913 moved the entrance, originally at the corner to its present location on 8th street, and added sculptured ornaments of stylized plants.
Tourtellotte & Hummel also designed storefronts for the Idaho Power retail location facing Idaho Street where you could learn more about electrifying your home and purchase electric appliances (as seen in the last image).
The building is currently occupied by the restaurants, Fork and Alavita in addition to offices on the upper floors. Thanks to previous use as a bank, there are nine bank vaults of various sizes located within the building which remain in the building today.
