BUREAU OF RECLAMATION

Government

Boise, Idaho

The Snake River area office of the Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Geological Survey was designed to acknowledge each agency’s responsibility: Rock and Water. As a result of our client’s desire to have their building reflect the region’s topography, a motif of mountains was incorporated into the exterior’s design. Between the two agency offices, oriented towards the Boise Foothills, is a shared atrium with a V-shaped, roof representing a valley. The roof was designed to catch and channel rainwater into a catch-basin that in turn creates a waterfall-like effect at the building’s entry.

Environmentally responsible design strategies were incorporated into the exterior and interior design of the facility that allowed the building the opportunity to achieve LEED certification. Interior finishes included rapidly renewable materials such as bamboo and cork, carpet containing recycled materials and recycled cotton fiber insulation.
